NOW is the time to use Ireland’s offshore wind – Minister Coveney
Minister Simon Coveney has recently indicated that offshore wind projects are the “sustainable option in the future”. This view is driven by EU targets for reduced emissions and by continuing planning difficulties for onshore wind energy. NOW Ireland welcomes this recognition that the Irish offshore wind energy resource should now be developed. NOW estimates that 500 MW per annum will be required from now to 2030 in order to contribute to Energy Union (according to our ability to do so) and in order to comply with 2030 EU targets.
